Get to Know Us

I'm Stephanie, and making things from scratch is my passion. My relationship with conventional bread ended in the 1990's, when health challenges arose. Digestive difficulties, thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue plus the infertility that Josh and I experienced early in our marriage had few conventional solutions. As a last resort, I consulted natural medicine. It opened my eyes to a world of information about root causes. What if food (and, wheat!) wasn't an enemy after all? How do conventional pesticides, synthetic chemicals and commercial processes in food affect our gut and overall health? Whole foods, prepared at home and through local producers became a top priority as we were blessed, finally with three beautiful children. I began my first sourdough starter in 2011, and the long- fermented, traditionally prepared sourdough I baked with that levain didn’t hurt my stomach. This Italian could eat bread again!

Josh's (AKA Breadman) love of bread began when his grandmum sat him on her lap at the lunch counter of La Teresita’s in Tampa, FL. Fresh, crusty Cuban bread dipped in cafe con leche, shared in community that connected people of all different backgrounds. It wasn’t long before he grew tall enough to dip his own bread in coffee at that counter. And, not much longer before he learned to make bread himself (and Mum's famous sticky buns) in her kitchen. A lifetime later, as unemployment pressures increased in a COVID world, he began to bake again in Georgia. Sourdough everything: biscuits, pancakes, pizza and loaves. The year 2023 brought both job opportunities, and altitude revisions to the family recipes he had created, as we all moved to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. His favorite saying? "It's not you. It's your bread."

Our mission is to nourish our neighbors and friends with nutrient-dense food, and to teach our community about the health benefits of sourdough using as many local, organic ingredients as possible. We hope you love eating our bread, as much as we love to make it for you!
