Why We Love the Slow Food Movement- and How More Microbakeries Support Positive Change

Our cozy little microbakery

The bakery scene is undergoing a delightful transformation. The Slow Food movement began across the globe over 40 years ago, encouraging local, sustainable food production, and traditional food preparation together within different cultures. In recent years, we have seen numerous changes in this movement as small-scale bakeries are opening their doors, both residential and commercial, to their neighbors and friends. They attract loyal customers through tasty loaves and treats, bolstered by word of mouth forums such as Nextdoor or other social media platforms. But why are so many microbakeries popping up now? Why does it seem like everyone is selling sourdough? And what makes certain ones stand out?

The Heart of the Community

On a human level, Josh and I (and our kids, too!) are truly thriving through personal connections to this community. When we open our front door, we get to hear your stories, meet your dogs and kids, and learn what's most important to you in this thing called life. We love seeing the same smiling faces each week, and even get to hug so many of you. Thank you for that!

On a business level, we are trying to source ingredients locally, and support nearby farmers and producers. Sometimes, these ingredients cost a bit more- but we feel it's worth it. We know this not only enhances the quality of our creations, but strengthens our local economies. A commitment to community is at the heart of the slow food movement, and focuses on the importance of traditional food practices and sustainability. By prioritizing local ingredients and artisanal methods, we create a unique bond with you, our customers as well as those producers that help feed you. You are part of a larger story!

Microbakeries such as ours are redefining what it means to enjoy real food. We focus on quality over quantity with time- and lots of attention to detail. This is a stark contrast to mass-produced alternatives in a world that often prioritizes convenience. Microbakeries remind us to savor the moment, enjoy food that is made with passion and purpose, and appreciate the origins of our food. Our microbakery (and other local ones as well!) invite you to engage with the people behind your food, fostering a sense of community and shared values. This personal touch is what makes microbakeries so special—they are places where people gather, share stories, and build lasting relationships over a shared love for good food.

The rise of microbakeries is more than just a trend. It's a celebration of community, quality, and the slow food movement. We're crafting a new narrative around baking, one that values connection and sustainability, and it’s a story that many of us are eager to be a part of. We'd love for you to join us!
