We feel your support in each of those 3 C’s: every time we form a loaf, share the extras or have the privilege of meeting one of you face to face. Our family, like yours may be growing careers, new hobbies, children, fur babies or fresh paths forward. We culture these endeavors with time, skills and resources in hopes that they will mature and become fruitful. Here at Scratch, we are quite literally growing a starter culture that we feed and tend each day. Every time I feed our starter, I think about how the few ingredients ferment and multiply to become the heart of every loaf we create. Sourdough would not be sourdough if there was not a starter. The loaves we make may have the ability to fill bellies, spur fond memories or spread joy when they are shared with others. But, it’s not really about the food itself- at heart, aren’t we all part of something bigger? When you support local, you are honoring your neighbor’s creativity. You are generously sharing your resources with your neighbor. And, you have the amazing opportunity to connect with your neighbor, too!

With that, here are a few more simple ways to ‘be a starter’ and support your Local Culture:

🛍️ Shop small. Before you click ‘Buy Now’ online, check to see if your local store carries what you need. Every dollar spent locally supports jobs and strengthens our economy.

🍽️ Eat local. Dine at neighborhood restaurants. Join regional farmer co-ops. Order from cottage- licensed food kitchens. You’ll enjoy fresh, authentic flavors and help local families thrive!

🎨 Celebrate local talent. Visit art fairs, live events or markets. Or share your favorite artist or business on social media or with friends. Your support helps them grow!

🫶 Give back. Volunteer with a local charity or donate to causes that impact those in your community.

When we support local culture, we’re investing in those that are investing in us. We’re placing resources behind what makes our community unique- the people, the stories and the skills and talents that bring it to life. Let’s lift each other up and strengthen our community!
